“礼”字初义
“礼”字的繁体是“禮”，本字为“豊”，一看便知与祭祀有关。在甲骨文中，“豊”的顶部就像两串美玉，底部就像有支架的建鼓。合起来会意，就是击鼓奏乐，用美玉敬奉祖先和神灵。履行敬神祈福的仪式。《说文》：礼，履也。所以敬奉神致福也。
“礼”由盛玉献神之礼器扩展指一切礼事，礼仪，礼制，字形简作“礼”。今通用。
“礼”字启慧
在漫漫的历史长河中，中华民族尊崇礼仪，不断修身养性，形成礼仪之邦。
守“礼”，待人谦卑，态度诚恳，所行合规，所言合矩，个人心灵安泰；
守“礼”，父慈子孝，长幼有序，兄友弟恭，氛围融和，家庭幸福绵长；
守“礼”，敬畏之心，仁爱互助，远离浮躁，至心中和，天下祥和有序；
正如明代思想家颜元所言“国尚礼则国昌，家尚礼则家大，身尚礼则身正，心尚礼则心泰。国家崇尚礼仪国家就能昌盛，家庭崇尚礼仪家庭就可兴大业，一个人崇尚礼仪就可以提升自己的修养，在心中崇尚礼仪就可以使心灵安泰。
不由地联想到了《道德经》中伟大的老子所言“失道而后德，失德而后仁，失仁而后义，失义而后礼，夫礼者忠信之薄而乱之首。”其大意为：人是在失去了道后才追求和强调有德，失去德后才追求和强调有仁，失去仁后才追求和强调有义，失去义后才追求和强调有礼。“礼”这个东西，是忠信不足的产物，是道、德、仁、义变得淡薄时才出现的。这老子是站在至高点看“礼”啊！“礼”成为天理的表现形式，守礼即是循天理，失礼就是悖天理。
可以这么说，没有正义的“礼”是伪善的；没有内心生出仁爱之心的“礼”是在作秀，没有德作为支撑的“礼”是不完善的。当然 ，所有的人走在天地大道的时候那是不可言说的美好境界——无为而治了。
